No watercraft owner would disagree that taking off or landing at a crowded boat ramp on a sunny Saturday afternoon is a nerve-wracking experience. With the help of our Sea-Doo experts, you can feel confident about launching and landing your Sea-Doo in front of any size audience.
Things to check for before launch:
1. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
If you’re feeling a little nervous, just ask someone who has launched a Sea-Doo before to help you out. They’ll be more than happy to show you the ropes, and they might even have some tips for you that will make your next launch go even smoother.
2. Make sure your Sea-Doo is clean and dry before launch day.
Clean your Sea-Doo thoroughly after each use, and wipe down the hull with a microfiber towel to remove any salt or sand residue. If there’s any moisture on the hull, it can cause corrosion over time and lead to premature damage to your Sea-Doo. Dry off all of the components as well, including the engine compartment, battery box and fuel tank cover. You don’t want any water droplets getting into these areas when you launch or land because they could cause electrical problems or rusting over time. Finally, check all of your fasteners before launch day so that nothing is loose or missing when it counts most!
3. Check your Sea-Doo’s oil level before launching – especially if it hasn’t been used in a while!
Your engine oil lubricates every moving part inside of your engine, which means that an underfilled oil tank can lead to serious damage if something goes wrong during launch day.
4. Check your PFD’s (Personal Floatation Device)
Being on a body of water may seem completely risk free on the surface but there are many ways in which you can fall off your PWC and risk drawing. Always wear a floatation device in case the worst is ever to happen.
5. Check the laws and regulations in the area you are launching from
Each place you launch from may have slightly varying rules such as the maximum horsepower or crafts on the water or even down to what type of craft can be used on the water. It is important to read up on where you stand before you go out on the water
Launching:
Using the ramp into the water, back down slowly keeping the craft straight and in the lane if it has one.
Back the craft into the water slowly until it starts to float
Grab the dock line and unhook the winch from the front of your sea-doo craft. Keep hold of the docking line so your craft doesnt drift off without you
Secure your craft to the dock somewhere out of the way to launch so other people can launch after you
Drive your vehicle off the ramp so it can be used for other watercraft
Landing:
Upon arriving at the lauch ramp, either send someone to retrieve your vehicle or tie up your Sea-Doo with your docking line and retrieve it yourself. Make sure to stay away from the launch ramp to avoid impeding on other who are launching or landing
Once your vehicle has backed down the ramp, pull up to your trailer, making sure to keep your craft straight and in one lane (if the ramp has lanes) and load the craft onto the trailer.
Connect the winch strap to the tow eye at the front of your Sea-Doo craft until it is fully loaded.
Get in the vehicle or have your friend drive your secured Sea-Doo craft off the ramp and park out the way.
Check your craft is safely secured to the trailer and all your riding gear is stowed away. Remove any debris from the outside of your craft and remove any excess water.
With your new launching and landing superpowers you will be able to live your best Sea-Doo life and enjoy your time on and off the water.
