Weekend Rider? Here’s How to Make Every Summer Session Count

Not everyone has time for long riding trips or week-long getaways. For many of our customers at Powersport Marine, summer riding means making the most of weekends — short bursts of freedom, quick setups, and riding when the sun decides to show.

But even short rides need smart preparation. As proud RNLI Water Safety Ambassadors, we’re here to help weekend riders across the UK enjoy safer, more rewarding time on the water.

Pack Once, Ride Often

The easiest way to make weekend riding stress-free? Stay packed and ready to go. Keep a dedicated kit bag for every trip — including:

  • Your life jacket
  • A charged mobile phone in a waterproof pouch
  • Spare riding gloves or wetsuit
  • Tow rope, dry bag, and basic tools

Having everything ready in one place means you can focus on riding — not rushing around.

Check Conditions Before You Leave the House

It sounds simple, but it’s often skipped in the rush. Before you even hitch the trailer:

  • Look up tide times and wind strength
  • Use apps or RNLI local info to check for warnings or updates
  • Know your launch site’s rules

A last-minute ride shouldn’t mean last-minute thinking — even quick trips deserve proper planning.

Set a Time Limit and Stick to It

It’s easy to lose track of time when the water’s smooth and the sun’s out. But if you’re fitting in a ride before a family BBQ or evening plans, it’s best to set a realistic return time and build in buffer.

Delays, unexpected swells, or engine hiccups can happen. Be generous with your timeline and keep your phone in reach — just in case.

Ride Conservatively, Especially If You Haven’t Been Out in a While

Weekend riders sometimes go weeks between sessions. That means your reaction times, confidence, and even balance may need a minute to warm up.

Ease into the day. Start slower than you think you need to. Check your machine’s feel, your handling, and how your body responds — then ramp up.

The RNLI promotes riding within your limits, not the conditions. It’s solid advice — especially for seasonal and casual riders.

Make Safety Part of the Habit

Whether you ride once a month or every weekend, your safety setup should never change. The best riders we know treat every ride with the same respect, no matter how short.

That’s why, at Powersport Marine, we talk safety with every rider — every time. We’re stocked with the right gear, RNLI guidance, and local knowledge to help you make every ride smoother, safer, and more fun.
